Webster’s Dictionary defines choke in terms of Suppress, Constrict, and Strangle. Shot Gun chokes have been around for many years. After market chokes have really taken shot gunning to new levels of killing power. One of the newest chokes is the “Strangler”. Its design not only constricts but it has a wad-stop system built in that provides for more shot getting to your target. Thus you have more killing power due to more pellets/energy impregnating the game. This I have personally experienced with duck hunting using the Strangler and #4 Hevi Shot in 3” loads. This choke + ammo combination killed mallards, gadwall, and widgeons out to 90 yards, and I’m not talking breaking a wing but Dead Duck killed.

The paper test on the Strangler using #4 Hevi Shot concluded it puts 22% more shot in a 24” circle than one of the more popular after market chokes that I’ve been using to hunt Turkeys with for 4 to 5 years. The Strangler far exceeds the full choke that came with my Berelli Super Black Eagle. Turkey season is fast approaching and I’m anxious to
see what it does to an ‘ole gobbers’ head. Slobber Knockin’ hitting I’m sure. They’re not the cheapest, just currently
the best.
